Do I need a website if I already have a Google Business Profile?

NHBiz Guides · For local service business owners

Short answer: probably, but not the kind of website you're picturing. If the mental image is a five-page site with a blog, a portfolio, and a "Meet the Team" page, you can put that off. If the question is really "do I need a website so my Google listing actually works," the answer is closer to yes — and it's a smaller lift than it sounds.

What your Google Business Profile can do on its own

A lot, actually. Your hours, your phone number, your reviews, your photos, and your position on the map all live on the listing itself, and none of that needs a website to function. Someone can call you straight from Maps without ever leaving Google.

What it can't do on its own

Two things matter here, and they're both about that "Website" field on your profile — the one that's blank on a lot of local trade listings.

This is different from needing a bigger web presence. It's about whether the one field Google gives you for a website is doing any work for you at all.

When a fuller site actually earns its keep

If you're doing higher-ticket work where trust matters a lot — a full kitchen remodel, a roof replacement — a fuller site with a real photo gallery, licensing and insurance details, and maybe a quote-request form starts to pay for itself. That's a different, bigger project than filling an empty field, and it's worth treating as its own decision rather than something you back into.

The practical middle ground

For most local trade businesses, the highest-leverage move is the simplest one: a single fast page that matches your Google listing's info exactly, lists what you do and where you do it, shows your real reviews, and makes calling you the obvious next step. That's the whole job. It doesn't need to be a marketing site — it needs to not be a dead end.
